At Best Friends Fur Ever, we truly mean it when we say all dogs are welcome.

That includes:

  • Dogs who are not spayed or neutered
  • Dogs who may not thrive in traditional group play
  • Puppies and seniors
  • Dogs with medical needs or special routines
  • Post-operative dogs requiring careful monitoring

Because of this, we have the privilege — and responsibility — of working with a wide range of behaviors and personalities every single day.

Understanding Dogs as Individuals

In our environment, we regularly support dogs experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Fear-based reactivity
  • High energy levels
  • Sensitivity to new environments

Rather than expecting dogs to “fit” into a standard daycare model, our Play My Way approach focuses on understanding each dog individually — socially, emotionally, and physically.

Our team is trained to recognize behavior patterns, adjust environments, and create experiences that help dogs feel safe, engaged, and successful.

Supporting Pet Parents Through It All

We also understand that pet parenthood can feel overwhelming.

Whether it’s:

  • Managing a dog with medical needs
  • Finding safe care for a reactive dog
  • Or simply needing time to run errands without worry

Our goal is to provide peace of mind — knowing your dog is not only safe, but truly cared for.

Spotlight: Maccabee’s Confidence Journey

We are currently fostering Maccabee, a Cane Corso, alongside our President, Mary Steinebrunner.

Maccabee came to us a bit shy and unsure, which is not uncommon for guardian breeds adjusting to new environments. Rather than rushing the process, we’ve taken a structured, intentional approach to building his confidence.

Building Confidence Through Structure and Training

Cane Corsos are naturally protective and observant. With Maccabee, the focus has been on:

  • Creating consistent daily routines
  • Gradual exposure to new environments, sounds, and people
  • Reinforcing calm, confident behaviors

Our trained staff will help ensure his development is thoughtful and appropriate for his breed and temperament.

Positive Reinforcement — With a Twist

While many dogs are food-motivated, Maccabee is not — which has encouraged us to lean more heavily into:

  • Engagement-based training
  • Toy-driven rewards
  • Relationship building through interaction and play

This approach allows us to meet him where he is, rather than forcing a method that doesn’t resonate with him.

Why This Matters

Confidence doesn’t happen overnight — it’s built through:

  • Consistency
  • Clear communication
  • Positive experiences

By giving Maccabee structure and guidance, we’re helping him learn how to navigate the world in a way that feels safe and manageable.

What’s Next

We’re excited to continue sharing Maccabee’s journey — including:

  • Progress updates
  • Training insights
  • Tips and techniques that may help other pet parents

Because every dog deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.
