We are proud of our state-of-the-art resorts and the intensive cleaning procedures we have in place to keep our dogs safe and healthy. To combat any contagious illness, we have several Pet Airapy UV light fixtures to kill airborne particles, fresh air constantly circulating, daily deep cleaning of every room, kennel, enclosure, field, play equipment, bowl/bucket, etc. with the best pet-safe disinfectants available, and a strict policy for all dogs to be up to date on their Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza vaccines. However, it’s still possible for dogs to contract a virus in any social setting, just like humans.

A dog suspected of having any type of contagious illness must be evaluated by a vet and receive clearance stating the pup is not contagious before they can return to our resort. If a dog were to become sick while under our care, we offer a Pet Care Warranty to cover up to $750 of the vet bill.

Below are examples of illnesses that fall under this policy:

Canine Cough

Just like people, dogs can get upper respiratory “colds” too. Similar to how humans can catch a cold from going to school, the office, restaurants, parties, stores, and other social environments, Canine Cough can be transmitted through dog parks, daycare, overnight stays, dog training classes, grooming, or even just a walk through the neighborhood or trail. Even though your dog received the Bordetella and parainfluenza vaccines to help prevent this, there are several additional strains of this virus that the vaccines don’t cover, just like how the human flu vaccine works. Symptoms of Canine Cough are a dry, hacking cough, fever, and lethargy.

Canine Influenza

Dog Flu is an upper respiratory infection that produces symptoms such as nasal congestion and discharge, difficulty breathing through the nose, coughing, fever, runny eyes, sneezing, lethargy, and loss of appetite. We require your dog to have the most recent flu vaccine that protects against both strains of Dog Flu (H3N8 and H3N2) which is available from your veterinarian or other vaccine clinics.

Canine Papilloma Virus

Canine Papillomas are small, contagious warts found on the lips, gums, mouth, paws, and rarely can also be located on other mucous membranes. In the majority of cases, these warts are not painful nor affect your dog’s daily routine, and they typically just fall off on their own after 1-3 months.

Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

Pink eye in dogs is exactly like it is for humans: symptoms include a red eye(s), green or yellow discharge, swelling/puffiness, excessive blinking or squinting, and itching at the eye.

Gastroenteritis

Known as the dog version of a “stomach bug”, Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract (the stomach and intestines). Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lethargy. It can be caused by many different factors such as new foods, stress, new environments, medications, bacteria, and parasites.
