This month, we’re beyond excited to celebrate a major milestone—15 amazing years of loyalty, leadership, and love from one of our treasured team members: KP!

From starting as a dog-loving teenager to becoming a cornerstone of our team, KP’s journey at Best Friends Fur Ever is nothing short of inspiring.

A Dog Lover from Day One

KP joined the BFFE family when she was just 16 years old, eager to work hands-on with animals and grow her knowledge of dog behavior. Her first role was as a handler, where she quickly discovered that this wasn’t just a job—it was the start of a meaningful and fulfilling career.

Wearing All the Hats

Over the years, KP has stepped into just about every role imaginable. Her current position is Reservation and Sales Specialist (RSS), but she’s also served as a bather, shift leader, handler, overnight staff during snowstorms, front desk receptionist, front desk manager, and even participated in the early “Play My Way” program (back when it was ADW). KP’s versatility, drive, and deep knowledge of pet care have made her an invaluable part of the team.

Growing Through Challenge

KP’s growth wasn’t just about climbing the ladder—it was about pushing her limits and expanding her skills.

“As I got older, I wanted to challenge myself in new roles—both to grow in dog knowledge and to get more customer-facing experience,” she shared.

While KP loved her time as a handler, she was ready for new challenges—and the front desk manager position proved to be both the toughest and most transformative.

“It helped me grow in confidence, handle high-pressure situations, and adapt quickly. Those skills have stuck with me to this day.”

Lessons from the Pack

Working with dogs has taught KP a valuable life lesson: patience.

In her current role as an RSS member, KP not only ensures the safety and happiness of the dogs in her care, but also works closely with clients—answering questions, offering guidance, and making sure each pet parent is set up for success.

“Just like dogs, people have different personalities, communication styles, and backgrounds. Learning how to work with that has made me a better teammate and leader.”

Her advice to anyone just starting out in the pet care field?

“It has its wild days and calm days, but don’t forget to have fun! And don’t be afraid to ask questions—there’s a lot to learn, but it gets easier as you go.”

A Pawprint That Lasts Forever

Out of the many dogs KP has cared for, one truly left a mark—Tyrion, a black and white Shih Tzu foster who lived at the facility for nearly six years.

“He was feisty, but he had a special kind of love. I miss him so much. I even got his paw print tattooed on me after he passed.”

Favorite Dog Name Memory?

“We once had a dog named Blackhawk. Whenever he got into trouble or jumped up, we’d all shout, ‘Blackhawk down!’ It was hilarious every time he came in.”

Why KP Loves BFFE

“The team makes it so easy to come to work and enjoy the day. Everyone works together, and they’re always so caring and sweet.”

KP, thank you for 15 years of heart, hustle, humor, and unshakable commitment. Your journey inspires all of us at Best Friends Fur Ever, and we are so lucky to have you as part of our family.
